Revealing the Mysteries behind Stonehenge

Posted on 22. Nov, 2009 by Dee in History

Over four thousand years ago, the people who built Stonehenge moved the stones which weighed over 4 tonnes from 250 meters away. In the stone age, this was no easy task. The stones were moved on circular logs of wood from modern Wales, to Salisbury plain; where this these large stones stand today.

It is still unclear why the ancient druids planned this monument. Some historians believe it served as a burial ground, while evidence also suggests that it was used as an astronomical observatory, and the position of the stones helped calculate the angles of the sun and the coming of the winter and summer solstice.

The presence of broken deer antler picks, and sharp objects made from deer and ox bone show that these were probably the only tools used to break the large pieces of rock and for chiseling.
