The De Stijl Art: Less is More

Posted on 30. Nov, 2009 by Dee in Arts

The De Stijl (The style in Dutch) movement makes understanding art easier! Started in 1917 in Europe, this style of art uses only primary colors, black, white and simple, abstract geometric designs and lines. The style also extends itself to make simple furniture and products.

This art movement lends itself to minimalist philosophies where form is greatly reduced to create simplicity in lines and planes. The movement also greatly influenced modern architectural design.
This video provides a simple enough explanation of the De Stijl movement. Perhaps you have furniture in your house modeled by these artistic philosophies without even realizing it!
