The Father of India: The story of Mahatma Gandhi

Posted on 23. Dec, 2009 by Dee in History

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a young lawyer in British occupied India who then went on to become one of the greatest leaders of all time.

This video shows us a part of his life and his rise to being the man who gave India her freedom. His ideals of peace and freedom gave him the title of Mahathma, which in Hindi means the wise and great man; and he touched the lives of millions of people not only in India, but around the world.

Gandhi’s freedom movement and his movement to boycott all British goods taught the Indians to take pride in their country and fight for her freedom. He also preached secularism, nationalist pride, and most importantly, peace.

Did you know? When Barack Obama was asked which historic figure he would like to have dinner with, he answered Mahatma Gandhi.
